October Is Red Ribbon Drug Prevention Month!

Throughout the month of October, citizens fight back against illegal drug use.  Red Ribbons are worn by individuals and displayed on buildings, fences, trees, cars, mailboxes, and other places to signify our commitment to drug-free lifestyles for all children, families and communities.

Parades, walks, rallies, poster contests, proclamations, education programs, and other events are held throughout the United States.

The Red Ribbon Campaign started after DEA Special Agent Enrique Camarena was brutally murdered by drug traffickers in 1985.  The Red Ribbon then became a symbol that America will fight back to stop the scourge of drugs.

This annual drug prevention campaign is meant to be a catalyst for each of us to take action in order to create a safe, healthy, drug-free environment for everyone.  It is meant to show our youth that their community supports and applauds their choice to be drug free.

If you would like to volunteer to work on our community's next Red Ribbon Drug Prevention Campaign, or if you would like more information, please contact PRIDE-Omaha, Inc., at 397-3309 or email us at info@pride.org
